Lambikin's Happenings Newsletter - Winter 2007

As we enter my favorite time of year, we have lots of exciting announcements. First, we are very proud to announce the arrival of Yarn Source Sol. If you have not heard, Sol is the second line of yarn distributed exclusively by Lambikin’s Hideaway. Sol is a 100% worsted-weight wool, put up in 220 yard hanks and sells for only $4.50 per skein. We are stocking 20 beautiful colors in reds, greens, blues, orange, and many more. We have heard nothing but rave reviews from all the customers that have already tried Sol. Be sure to stop into the shop to see our latest edition to the Yarn Source family.

We have some great classes scheduled for the after holiday knitting season. This is when you can put behind you the projects for friends and family and work on something special just for yourself. We are fully stocked on all your favorite yarns in tons of colors and plenty to complete a project of your choice.

Our online store continues to grow! We gave the entire site a face-lift back in October and the response has been very positive. We are now stocking a good portion of our inventory online. We continue to add new yarn about every week. Even if you live in the greater Cincinnati area, we are more then happy to take your order online and ship it out. We have already completed most of our spring ordering, so start to look for new yarns arriving in mid-March! We have some great new yarns coming from some of our favorite companies. Plus, plenty of reorders on our most popular summer yarns.

Since our knit-alongs were such a success in fall, we have decided to continue them through the winter. Below we outline each month’s theme.

January is Me month. This will be knit for yourself month. After months of knitting for others and getting your gifts ready for the holidays, indulge yourself a little. Come and start that project that you have been wanting to do, but just hadn’t started yet because of other obligations.

February is Sweetheart month. The first Monday night of the month we will be having a class from 6-8 PM for knitting for your sweetheart. From pillows to those fun little knits, come on in and make something special for that special someone in your life. We expect this class to fill up quick, so sign up early!

March is UFO month. We all have them, so lets get some out and work on them. We will be having a UFO class at the beginning of the month. In this class you can bring in your UFO’s and ask any questions that might have you stumped. For those who are not sure what a knitting UFO is, it’s an UnFinished Object.

April is, of course, Spring has Sprung!! Flowers and trees are in bloom, and the weather is finally warming up as well. During this month we will be having felted flowers, summer bag and summer top classes, plus many more.

New Arrivals

Malabrigo
A long-time store favorite has been re-stocked with plenty of favorite colors and several new ones. While many stores sell Malabrigo for more, we are committed to keeping our price at $10.95 as long as possible. A new addition to the Malabrigo family is the Merino Chucky. Same great feel and colors as the worsted, in a heavier weight. While we are now able to at least get Malabrigo on the shelf before it sells out, hurry in to get the best selection of colors.

Classes

Here is our class schedule for January through April.

• Sign-up sheets for all classes are in a binder at the store.
• Class times and days are firm. Please verify you will be able to make it to all class times and days.
• A 50% deposit is required with registration. The balance of the class fee is due at the time of the first class. We will accept cancellations up to 5 days prior to class. Refunds will be given in store credit only.
• You can either register by phone or in person at the store. If you register by phone, we will accept a credit card over the phone, or you can mail a check.
• Class cancellations due to insufficient students will be announced 3 days before the first class date, and fees or deposits will be refunded.

To make sure you will not be bored or in over your head, we are putting a scale in place to rate the difficulty of each class.

Beginning Knitting for Adults  
Session 1: January 12, 19 and 26 9-11 AM
Session 2: February 17, 24, and March 3 9-11 AM

Description: Come in and learn to knit. You will learn the basics of knitting while getting the knowledge that you need to do projects of your choice.

Mittens, Glittens and Gloves  
Session 1: January 11, 18 and 25 9-11 AM
Session 2: January 27, February 3 and 10 9-11 AM

Description: Choose mittens, gloves or the popular fingerless gloves, all knit in the round. Learn to knit this great gift item in plenty of time for Holiday gift giving!

Something for your Sweetheart  
Session 1: February 5 6-8 PM

Description: February is the month of loved ones. Come and knit a special treat for the special love in your life.

Pink Lady Bag  
Session 1: February 12 6-8 PM

Description: This is a fun felted bag that can be completed in 1 day. This bag makes a great gift and is quick and easy to knit.

Felted Bag  
Session 1: March 22 and 29 9-11 AM

Description: Felted bags are so easy and fun to knit. This is just a one-time class. You can make your bag as simple or elegant as you want.

Fair Isle-Two Handed, Two Color Knitting

Description: Knit a fair isle hat or bag in the round. Learn to carry two colors in each row by holding one in each hand.

UFO's  
Session 1: March 5 6-8 PM

Description: Just how many UFO's(unfinished knitting objects) do you have. Are you stumped by some. Would they be on their way to the finish line if your questions were answered? This is the class for you. Bring in your UFO’s and get some of those questions out of the way

Sweaters 101  
Session 1: January 6, 13 and 20 9-11 AM
Session 2: February 9, 16 and 23 9-11 AM

Description: Knitted in the round from the top down, the easiest seamless sweater in the world. Perfect for beginners or experienced knitters wanting to learn the top down technique.

Magical Moebius Easter Basket

Description: You will learn the Moebius cast on and knit a felted Easter basket made popular by Cat Bordhi's Magical Knitting. (Book and needles included)

Knitted Toy Class

Description: There are many toy books out now with really cute patterns. Toys make a great gift for a little one and they are fun to make. They use many techniques so they are a good learning class. Come on in and pick out a toy pattern, from dolls, animals, and blocks, there are many to choose from.

Finishing Techniques  
Session 1: March 24 9-11 AM
Cost: $30
Description: Come and learn tricks to make this part of your knitting more enjoyable. Seams, picking up stitches and buttonholes will be covered.

One Sock, Two Sock  
Session 1: January 10, 17 and 24 6-8 PM

Description: This class will teach you how to do socks the Magic Loop way. This class is for anyone who would like to learn to make socks on one circular needle.

Knit or Crocheted Linen Euro Bag

Description: This is a open knit/Crocheted all purpose bag. No matter if you are a knitter or a crocheter this is a nice easy pattern and fun to make.

Silk Shawl

Description: Have you been dying to make something out of silk but not sure what to make? This easy shawl pattern is fun to make and our Passion 100% silk yarn looks great in this pattern.

Knitted Shell/Tee Class

Description: Want to make your first sweater, or maybe you just want to knit with some of the new cool summer yarn? Come in and learn how to do a basic shell using ribbon or yarn of your choice.

Self Striping Baby Sweater

Description: In this class you will make a cuff-to-cuff baby sweater using self-striping sock yarn.

Felted Flowers
